Monk: Bony’s not for sale

Swansea have issued a hands-off warning over wanted striker Wifried Bony. The forward has been linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium for most of the summer.

Tottenham and Liverpool have both targeted the Ivory Coast man over the course of the transfer window, but reports are claiming the Reds have now dropped their interest in Bony, despite Loic Remy’s move to Anfield failing.

Even though there are less teams battling for his signature, Swansea boss Garry Monk has insisted that the 25-year old will not be leaving. He said:

“We’ve had no contact from anyone at all. At the end of the day he’s not for sale, unless someone comes in with an astronomical offer. Unless they want to pay an astronomical fee he’s going nowhere. It would be silly for any player to say ‘I only want to stay at this club’, because if a bigger or better so-called club comes along and it’s a higher level of football, then every player’s going to do it.

“But having spoken to him, he knows he’s a Swansea City player. He knows that nothing’s happened so far.”
