Morata not good enough for Premier League?

After a disappointing performance for Spain against Czech Republic, questions have been raised as to his ability.

The 23-year-old’s form for Juventus, and rumoured buy-back clause for Real Madrid in his contract, has seen him linked strongly with a move a number of Premier League clubs.

It has been speculated that Real Madrid will look to buy Morata back and then sell him on for a profit, maybe meaning a Premier League club could swoop in for him.

The former Madrid man started out drifting wide and showing some good hold-up play, but it was all-out centre-forward play as he latched onto a cross in the 15th minute – though he arguably should’ve scored after firing straight at Petr Cech.

The Spaniard clearly knew how to fashion chances for himself however, nearly scoring in the 28th minute.

A poor aspect of his play was that he got caught offside a few too many times. While it’s admirable that he was playing on the shoulder of the last defender – something Arsenal clearly want as they try to seal a move for Jamie Vardy – he needs to time his runs a little better.

In the immediate future, Morata may not be guaranteed another start for Spain at this tournament, having been taken off for Aduriz on 62 minutes. This will disappoint both him and potential clubs who want to sign him, as they continue to look for a clinical forward to lead the lines for their team.

Pundits have also attacked the forward, with Lee Dixon was not too impressed. Speaking on ITV, the former Arsenal man singled out Morata for criticism on a number of occasions, and many others calling him ‘overrated’.
