Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club suffered numerous injuries on the opening day of the season when his side lost 3-1 at home to Aston Villa.
The Gunners are already down to the bare-bones after selling over 15 players this summer and before kick-off on Saturday, they had a few injuries already.
Thomas Vermaelen, Nacho Monreal, Abou Diaby and Mikel Arteta are all out long-term with injuries and they have now been joined by four more firs-team players at the Emirates.
Kieran Gibbs picked up an injury early on at the weekend after a collision with a Villa player caused him to suffer a deep cut above his eye, whilst other wing-back Bacary Sagna also picked up a knock.
Not only were two defenders injured, three midfielders have also joined the injury list as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky have all picked up knocks as well.
After the 3-1 defeat, Wenger said:
‘Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gibbs, Sagna. Gibbs has a deep cut. Sagna and Rosicky have problems. Wilshere – I don’t know how he will respond after the full 90 minutes. Ramsey has a problem after a kick at his ankle. On that front, we have done quite well’.
