Southampton star wants Champions League football

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has confirmed that he wants to leave the club this Summer in order to join a team in the Champions League.

The Frenchman wanted out of the club this time last year after seeing all his team-mates complete moves to bigger clubs, but Ronald Koeman blocked any potential transfer away.

Summer Sales from Southampton

Dejan Lovren, Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers all secured moves away from St Marys, to Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal respectively, and Schneiderlin also wanted out.

The midfielder was wanted by both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, with Mauricio Pochettino keen on having a reunion with him, but Koeman blocked his move and told him he couldn’t leave.

The 25-year-old was left fuming with the decision, but he eventually got his head around it and was happy to remain at the club.

However, a year later, after failing to break into the top-four, Schneiderlin has once again confirmed his desire to quit the club and play in the Champions League, sparking speculation that he’s on his way to Arsenal.

Speaking to French media, Schneiderlin confirmed that his mind was made up and he wants to leave this Summer.

Schneiderlin Reveals Exit Plans

“Yes, I think my decision is made,” he told the French radio station RMC.

“I learned a lot last season. The goal is to stay in England. It is a championship that I like and where I have a lot of fun. If I leave Southampton, it is for a club that plays better than the Europa League.

“There are ongoing discussions but nothing is done. But of course the Champions League is my goal. If I leave Southampton it will be for a club in the Champions League.

“I have a two-year contract. If a club pays the right amount for me, it will be time to leave.

“The amount? I have no idea but I will not leave for a small price. Southampton is known to be a good seller club, the price should be high enough.”
