Mourinho and Wenger altercation was just “passion”

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has said that last Sunday’s altercation between Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger was normal in such a high profile match.

Chelsea won 2-0 courtesy of an Eden Hazard penalty and a goal from the on fire Diego Costa.

Originally, Arsene Wenger was unhappy about a challenge from Chelsea’s Gary Cahill and encroached into Mourinho’s dugout.

Mourinho told Wenger to get back in his own technical area, words were then exchanged and then the two managers squared up to each other.

Parlour believes there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with what happened and thinks it’s part and parcel of any Chelsea-Arsenal game.

“I think it’s passion, they’re both winners. I didn’t think there was anything out of order. At the end of the day I think it’s been blown out of proportion.”

Parlour famously scored a sensational goal to help beat Chelsea in the 2002 FA Cup final and knows the added spice that comes with the fixture.

“It happens a lot when you’ve got that sort of rivalry which you’ve got to have- it’s Arsenal v Chelsea at the end of the day.”

It is not often that Wenger gets wound up but clearly Mourinho has got under his skin, which the Portuguese will consider a job well done.

Mourinho has prided himself throughout his career on winning the war of words with his rival managers and he certainly seems to have the edge over Wenger and Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Mourinho described the Frenchman as a “specialist in failure” last season and their fractous relationship has continued to escalate.
