The Football Association charge Portuguese with improper conduct after Chelsea manager enters field of play at Villa Park

Jose Mourinho has received his second improper-conduct charge of the season following Chelsea’s fractious defeat against Aston Villa on Saturday but the Portuguese is not facing the threat of a touchline ban.

The Football Association charge relates solely to how Mourinho came on to the pitch during the closing minutes of the match and approached referee Chris Foy, rather than any allegation of abusive language.

Mourinho has also avoided punishment for post-match comments in which he questioned whether Foy should officiate Chelsea games and partially used referee’s performance as part of the explanation for Ramires’ dangerous tackle on Karim El Ahmadi.

FA rule E3 says that managers must not leave the confines of their technical area during the match and, if the do, states that they could be liable to an FA charge, with a fine ranging from ÂŁ8,000 to ÂŁ12,000.

Mourinho was fined £8,000 in October for protesting to referee Anthony Taylor about time-wasting during his team’s 4-1 win against Cardiff City.

He has until Monday to dispute the said Charges
