Diego ready to continue form from last season

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes new £32m signing Diego Costa has the attributes to be a success in the Premier League this season.

The summer signing from Atletico Madrid is coming off the back of a Champions League Final, a La Liga title, and a disappointing World Cup with Spain. And Mourinho reckons that the striker can adapt to life in West London.

He said ‘I have known Diego since he was 17. Life was not easy for him, nobody gave him anything, he has always had to fight to do things.

‘He was at Braga, a good team. Then had to go on loan. Then he goes to Atletico, but because of Aguero he goes to Celta Vigo. Then he had to go to Rayo Vallecano when Falcao arrived.

‘The Premier League is difficult, he knows that. But I don’t think it will be difficult for him to succeed’.

Costa scored 43 goals in 94 appearances for Atletico, and is eager to get started in England.

The striker said after joining the Blues ‘I am very happy to sign for Chelsea. They are a big club in a competitive league, and I am excited to work with a fantastic coach and team-mates’.
