Mourinho: French Federation should thank me

Jose Mourinho believes the French Federation should thank him for helping make what he feels will be the international team’s defensive partnership in the future. The two players he is referring to are Kurt Zouma – who plays under him for the Blues – and Raphael Varane.

The Special One was the man who gave Varane his Real Madrid debut and the Frenchman is now hot property in Spain with a number of teams chasing his signature, including Mourinho. Kurt Zouma is also getting valuable game time at Stamford Bridge under the Portuguese gaffer.

Now, Mourinho believes the two can become the heart of France’s defence in the years to come and he thinks the French Football Federation should thank him for the work he has done. He said: “I think the French Federation should write me a letter to thank me because I think they have now the best two young central defenders in the world.

“I’m not saying the best because there are young, there are obviously end products, mature players 24, 25, 28, 30-year’s-old. But as young defenders can you imagine what Varane and Zouma can represent in football in a couple of years?”
