 Jose Mourinho is looking at a big fine and a possible touchline ban after the FA charged him after comments he made after his side drew with Southampton on December 28th.

After the game Mourinho accused officials of being influenced by the media and other managers into thinking that his players dive. Anthony Taylor who was referring that day denied a penalty appeal from Cesc Fabregas when he was tripped in the box.

Mourinho had this to say on the matter after the Southampton game;

“In other countries where I have worked, this would be front-page news because it is a scandal.

“The commentators, the other managers, they are all putting pressure on referees. Match after match coaches are saying Chelsea players are diving, in a way they don’t with other teams. I will go to the referee and wish him a good year and tell him he will be ashamed.

After these comments the FA has decided to charge him with misconduct and Mourinho’s response to this was to withdraw from his pre-match conference today and send his assistant manager Steve Holland to discuss the upcoming match with Newcastle.

A statement from the FA said this;

An FA read: “It is alleged his remarks constitute improper conduct in that they allege and/or imply bias on the part of a referee or referees and/or bring the game into disrepute.”
