United could smash transfer record to land midfielder

Jose Mourinho has made the signing of Paul Pogba his no.1 priority at Manchester United, as he plans a deal that could shatter the world-record transfer fee.

Mourinho had his first official day as United boss yesterday, and spent a good portion of it talking to Ed Woodward about potential signings. He told Mr. Woodward that he was desperate to land Pogba in this meeting.

That is expected to lead to an official offer being made to Juventus, which could be as much as £100m, although negotiations are likely to be delayed by the player’s continued involvement in the European Championship.

There is a growing confidence that Pogba will return to United, although officials are wary of being used in an attempt to drive up the asking price.

United were played during Cristiano Ronaldo and Sergio Ramos’ contract negotiations at Real Madrid and their interest has also been used by Neymar’s representatives  over the last 12 months to get a new deal at Barcelona.

However, Pogba seems as though he does want to leave Juventus this summer, and only a sizeable bid will be enough to sign him.
