Mourinho taunts Gerrard over slip

Jose Mourinho has taunted Steven Gerrard and Liverpool ahead of his side’s clash with the Reds tomorrow. The last time the two teams met, Liverpool captain Gerrard slipped and allowed striker Demba Ba to seal a 2-0 win for the Blues over their rivals.

The loss proved to be a costly one and Mourinho has reminded the Liverpool skipper of his error ahead of the game on Saturday. He said: “It gave the title to Man City, as simple as that. Liverpool, with a point in that match, would have been champions. Without it, they lost the title. It meant nothing to us.

“After our defeat against Sunderland, our position was the sub-position. That match, for us, meant just professional pride you have to go for every game and try to win, but we were not in the race. It was just a match that gave the title to Man City.”

And since that key match, the tables have turned on the two sides. Chelsea, who finished third, are now leading at the top of the Prem, four points clear of second-placed Southampton. Liverpool on the other hand, who were close to a first Prem victory last year, are now langushing in seventh place, 12 points behind Mourinho’s men.

However, a win for Brendan Rodger’s side tomorrow could take them up to sixth, at least until 3pm. If Chelsea were to claim the three points they would open up a seven-point gap at the top of the table, albeit potentially only until all the other games have finished as well.
