David Moyes is staying quiet on whether Rio Ferdinand and Patrice Evra will follow Nemanja Vidic out of Old Trafford at the end of the season. It was confirmed earilier this week that Vidic would be leaving United come the summer, and now it is expected that 2 more veteran defenders will follow him, but Moyes has refused to confirm it, and hopes he will be given time to bring in replacements should they be needed.

“It [losing 3 senior defenders] could happen at any time.” Moyes said to The Daily Mirror, “They’re great pro’s, working hard, and still here. With two of them, it’s still hypothetical. Vidic has made his decision, he wants to be straight and stop speculation.”

Meanwhile, Moyes believes that the current selection of central defenders can fill the void left by Vidic’s departure. Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Johnny Evans are all expected to battle it out for Vidic’s place once he leaves, and Moyes will give them plently of oppertunities to prove their worth.

“People who know football will probably know that centre-half is probably the toughest position. I think it is even harder to play centre half than goalkeeper now. Phil Jones, Johnny Evans and Chris Smalling are already here, I will give them an oppertunity to show what they’re capable of.”
