The 30 year-old has less than a year on his current contract with Liverpool and it appears the club’s management are unwilling to offer the defender a one year extension and looks set to leave this January.

Brenden Rodgers already has many back-up defenders in his squad such as Javier Manquillo and Jon Flanagan in the right back position and Alberto Moreno and Jose Enrique on the left.

Liverpool spent big this summer bringing in such names as Mario Balotelli, Dejan Lovren and Adam Lallana, and Rodgers is reportedly set to see Johsnon leave the club in January rather than let him leave during the summer on a free.

As reported in Express Sport, Serie A champions Juventus are keen to bring in the Englishman but now Rafa Benitez is also keen to see Johnson into Italy.

Johnson spoke about the possibilities, saying: “There are no talks going on with the club at the moment.

“There were minor talks towards the end of the last season but nothing else.

“I’ve loved playing my football here from day one, but obviously I can only talk to the club about it when they want to speak to me.

“In January, I could (talk to other clubs), but I’ll worry about that when January comes.”
