Napoli no-go for Lavezzi

Liverpool and Tottenham are ready to step up their persuit of Paris-Saint-Germain attacker Ezequiel Lavezzi.

It was understood that Napoli, who originally sold Lavezzi to PSG for ÂŁ21m back in 2012, were ready to snatch back the wanted winger for ÂŁ17 million pounds once the window re-opens on Saturday.

With the Italian club also being linked with Mario Balotelli of Liverpool, club chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that the club are unable to afford Lavezzi’s high demands, which caused his departure from Napoli in the beginning.

De Laurentiis told Il Mattino: “You forget that Lavezzi has a salary of €4.5million net per year and that it was he who wanted to leave Naples. He decided (to go) in 2011, and we asked him to stay a year, so in 2012 he moved to Paris St. Germain.

“Sometimes the players’ agents have fun [linking us to players], but we have nothing to do with neither Lavezzi or Balotelli.”

This news has alerted both Liverpool and Tottenham who are now ready to offer Lavezzi a way to the Premier League, and it appears that Tottenham could be the favourites to sign the Argentina international this January, with the Reds seemingly needing to offload Balotelli in order to make any move for the unwanted PSG man.
