Nathan Redmond has backed Charlie Austin post match rant targeting the referees insisting it was a priceless moment.

Austin looked to have secured a crucial three points for Southampton as he scored a potential match winner but his goal was disallowed as the assistant referee pointed out Saints defender Maya Yoshida was in an offside position at the time of the goal.

Watford went on to score the equaliser with eight minutes to spare denying the home side a deserving three points. Austin later blasted the match officials in an angry post match rant claiming the decision was absolutely a ‘joke’.

The rise in the errors compelled the Premier League bosses to announce the inclusion of VAR in the Premier League which is already being used in the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup.

Redmond said, “Every footballer has TVs in the training ground and you see Sky Sports, you see the highlights and you think that should not be a pen, VAR could probably step in, or that should not be a goal or is a goal

“There are so many decisions and I just think probably it took a moment like Charlie’s interview to get people to be like every single person agrees.

“I think it was a priceless moment in the season in the world of football. Again I can only reiterate it is just one of those things that’s what it had to take. I don’t think anybody knew that Charlie’s interview was going to be what it was.”
