Chelsea are set to open talks with Nemanja Matic over a new contract.

Matic, currently serving a three-match ban for his controversial red card against Burnley, has had an outstanding season for the Blues.

And manager Jose Mourinho considers Matic a valuable asset, and may be about to offer the Serb a new contract worth ÂŁ100,000 per week, from his current wage of ÂŁ70,000.

Matic spent three and a half years away from Stamford Bridge, first at Vitesse Arnhem, then Benfica.

He returned in January 2014, and the new deal will propel him to among the highest earners at the club.

Matic was sent off in retaliation to a nasty challenge by Burnley’s Ashley Barnes, who went unpunished.

He is set to return for the second leg of the Champions League Second Round against French side Paris St-Germain.
