Real Madrid superstar Gareth Bale says he would never played for England, even if it meant that he would never qualify for a major tournament.
Bale is arriving at the European Championships in France this month off the back of winning his second Champions League trophy in three seasons at Real Madrid, cementing himself as the star of the Wales show.
The winger has been magnificent for his country over the past couple of years as his seven goals in qualifying were a major reason why they made it to France in the first place.
Bale, who is representing his country in a major tournament for first time at the EURO, has admitted that he never would have chosen to play for England, even if it meant he’d never qualify with Wales.
“I wouldn’t care if I never qualified, I would never play for England,” Bale said to reporters, via the Telegraph. “It doesn’t vindicate anything. We’ve been through so much and, to be here now, I think we appreciate it more than others.”
The 26-year-old Welshman scored 19 goals in 23 La Liga games for Real Madrid this season.
