Newly re-installed Inter Milan manager Roberto Mancini hopes to make a move for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in the January transfer window.

The Liverpool skipper is out of contract with the Reds next summer, and has been earmarked by the former Manchester City boss as a player who would help Inter reach their previous heights under Mancini.

The new manager has spoken of his excitement of working with the young squad that Inter currently possess, but knows that he’ll also need experienced bodies in his squad and Gerrard would fit that bill perfectly.

Gerrard has admitted that he would leave Liverpool if he wasn’t offered a new deal at Anfield, and there’d be no shortage of interest from around the world with the MLS also mentioned as a possible destination for the 34 year-old.

Any deal for Gerrard would be on a pre-contract agreement from January, as it’s likely he’d want to see out the season with Liverpool due to their title aspirations and place in the Champions League.
