Newcastle in advanced talks with Austin

Newcastle United have made QPR striker Charlie Austin their number one target ahead of a big summer transfer window for new manager Steve McClaren.

The 25-year-old is expected to leave Loftus Road this summer after an impressive season in his first season in the Premier League, with him scoring 18 goals.

Recently appointed Newcastle boss Steve McClaren and the Magpies board are in advanced talks with Austin and his representatives over a permanent transfer.

QPR are considering letting the England international leave the club for a minimum fee of £15million.

However, the Magpies face tough competition for the forward as Premier League champions Chelsea are interested to sign the former non-league star, with Blues manager Jose Mourinho recently admitting that he wants to sign a ‘goal-scoring’ striker following the departure of Stamford Bridge veteran Didier Drogba.
