The striker had several clubs chasing him

According to the Daily Express, Newcastle United offered Queens Park Rangers a cash plus player deal to sign Charlie Austin.

QPR had their talismanic centre forward valued at ÂŁ15 million. However, the reports suggest that the Magpies’ boss Steve McLaren offered ÂŁ10 million plus highly rated winger Rolando Aarons in an attempt to land Austin on Deadline Day.

Despite being linked with a move to St James’ Park, Austin decided to stay at Loftus Road.

The 26-year old was also on the radar for sides such as Chelsea and Manchester United, which is no surprise considering he bagged 18 top flight goals for a side who were relegated to the Championship.

A move back to the Premier League may have boosted Austin’s chances of returning to the England fold and maybe even being part of Roy Hodgson’s plans for Euro 2016.

The man in question stays put

For now he remains a QPR player and the R’s manager Chris Ramsey is being ambitious and trying to tie Austin down with a new contract.

If Austin doesn’t put pen-to-paper on a new deal, he will be able to leave on a free transfer next summer. This means QPR may reluctantly have to cash in on him in the January transfer window.

The ex-Burnley and Swindon Town poacher has been in great form at the beginning of the new campaign, scoring four goals in five appearances.
