German World Cup Winner is currently out on loan

Newcastle United are planning on making a shock Summer move for Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski.

The German international is currently out on loan from the Emirates Stadium at the San Siro with Inter Milan, but has admitted his desire is to return to England at the end of the current season.

Out of Favour

Podolski fell down the pecking order over the Summer after Arsene Wenger signed Alexis Sanchez from FC Barcelona and Danny Welbeck from Manchester United.

After several please for first-team football, Podolski was finally started against Galatasaray in the Champions League, but despite netting twice, he was dropped for the next game and that was evidently the final straw in the forward’s coffin.

Loan Spell at Inter

Once the January transfer window opened, Inter and Arsenal began talks about a six-month loan deal and the World Cup Winner secured a temporary move away in order to get regular football.

Podolski has played regularly under Roberto Mancini, but only managed to net his first goal for the club last week, but that hasn’t put off Newcastle.

Newcastle Interest

According to reports, The Magpies will open discussions with Arsenal over the Summer and are prepared to make a formal offer for the versatile front-man.

The 29-year-old can play up front as a lone striker and also as a left-winger, and according to reports, Newcastle will offer The Gunners ÂŁ10million.

Stumbling Block

However, there could be a stumbling block with Podolski currently earning ÂŁ100k-a-week at Arsenal, and it’s believed Newcastle will not match that salary if they were to make a formal move.
