Neymar joined Paris Saint- Germain form Barcelona for a world record fee of €222 million last August, which made him the most expensive player in football history. The Brazilian joined the La Liga giants in 2013 and enjoyed a successful period their but decided to leave as he wanted to operate more independently.

The 26 year old was in excellent form for the Ligue 1 giants, scoring 28 goals and assisting 16 from 30 appearances before suffering a foot injury. The 33 year old’s own Madrid future is in doubt after the Portugal international suggested after the Champions League final that he could leave the club, although he later indicated on a trophy parade he would stay.

“I must say that Neymar is at the level of Real Madrid,” Valdano told L’Equipe as quoted by Goal.

“For me, he is the closest heir to Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It seems to me a legitimate aspiration to bet on a player of his talent that will reach its fullness in the next five years.”
