The La Liga club are planning to offer the 23-year-old ÂŁ500,000-a-week, according to reports

The new contract is a means of keeping the Brazil international at the Nou Camp, according to The Sun.

Neymar was just one of a number of targets believed to be on United manager Louis Van Gaal’s wish list this summer.

However, the winger immediately insisted he was going nowhere “no matter how many million pound offers come from England.”

United were also linked with a move for one of Neymar’s former team-mates, Pedro, but the Spain international chose Chelsea instead.

The Red Devils were also thought to be keen on Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

Chelsea wanted Martial as well

Anthony Martial became the world’s most expensive teenager when he joined United from Monaco for £36million on deadline day.

Reports have recently emerged Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho was also keen on the France international striker and was prepared to match United’s offer.

The 19-year-old, who scored eight goals in 21 Ligue 1 games last season, could end up costing the Old Trafford club ÂŁ58million after add-ons and bonuses.

He becomes United’s third most expensive signing after Juan Mata’s £37.1million move from Chelsea and Angel Di Maria’s £59.7million move from Paris Saint-Germain.
