Paris Saint-Germain promised to take disciplinary action against Neymar for being absent from training and the Brazil international is about to be slapped with a €375,000 fine.
His father, Neymar Sr. revealed the reason behind his son missing the first week of pre-season training. He told Fox Sports Brasil, “We had commercial and institutional commitments [on Friday, Saturday] set.
“For the past five years, [Neymar’s] institute takes part in those. PSG, with the presence of president Nasser [Al-Khelaifi] included, took part in those events. I don’t understand the reason for this arbitrariness. We are annoyed by this but PSG knew about this situation.”
Neymar’s violation of basic team rules is set to cost him a hefty sum of money but not really. There is a clause in the Brazilian’s contract where PSG awards him €375,000 every month, simply for good behaviour. He is simply due to miss out on that bonus with a promised yearly salary of around €34m, of course, without all the brand deals and sponsorships off the pitch.
Reports claim that every athlete has this particular clause inserted into their contracts. “It is for exemplary behaviour towards sponsors, opponents, referees, and officials and for punctuality and effort in training,” the club says. “Even respect towards the media is one of the parts of this behavioural bonus.”
