Chelsea Midfield N’Golo Kante says he left champions Leicester for The Blues because they are a “champion club”.

Kante made 40 appearances for Leicester City last season and was one of the key players in Claudio Ranieri’s squad that won the Premier League title.

That led Antonio Conte to spend £30million on the France star in the summer and already he has imposed himself at Stamford Bridge making 18 appearances to date.

Speaking in an interview with the Sunday Times, Kante explained why he left the newly-crowned champions.

“The year I spent there, it’s going to stay in my mind. I always remember this day of May 2, 2016, we’re all together at Jamie’s house and see Chelsea play against Tottenham and it goes from 2-0 to 2-2 and we were champions,” he said.

“At Leicester we wanted to win and not lose and to fight for every minute. At Chelsea it’s the same.

“But the difference is Chelsea is a champion club, who have won everything and there are champion players. At Leicester for nearly everyone it was the first time.”

With Chelsea nine points clear at the top of the table Kante, who doubled his weekly salary from £55k to £110k by moving to London, is line to win the Premier League with two separate teams in successive seasons.

Kante has also picked up more points than any other Premier League player over the past two seasons (120 points from 53 games), 19 points more than his closest rival Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal.
