Sky Sports understands that Sunderland have put together a nine-man shortlist as potential replacements for Paolo Di Canio, who was sacked from the club on Monday.
The former-Swindon manager was under a lot of pressure at Sunderland after a terrible start to the new season and after several key-players turned their back on the Italian, the club had no choice but to sack him.
Now their attentions are on finding a replacement and it is thought that they have at least nine names on their wanted list.
Heading that list are; Gianfranco Zola and Gus Poyet, who have both proved their credentials in the Championship with Watford and Brighton respectively.
Also on the list is; Neil Lennon, Steve McClaren, Roberto Di Matteo and current man in charge Kevin Ball.
There has been no announcement for when a new manager will be named, but it is expected to be sometime next week.
