The Belgian youngster had previously hinted at a return to La Liga in the Summer of 2018, however after receiving a lot of hatred from Chelsea fanatics post interview, the starting 11 goalkeeper has gave the fans some reassurance by stating his immediate future lies in England.

Last month Thibaut had his words to Marca interpreted by the Chelsea followers as though he was planning to exit Stamford Bridge in order to continue his career where he had made a name for himself: in Spain. He then clarified the situation to the fans by letting them know that he aspires to win trophies in England before going anywhere.

“I do want to return to Spain one day but that could also be when my career is over.”

“Currently, I am happy at Chelsea. For how long we will see but right now I want to win prizes at this club.”

The 24 year old spent 3 years in Spain following a €9 million 5-year deal from Chelsea due to being loaned out immediately after the purchase to La Liga outfit Athletico Madrid. During this time he established himself as one of the top goalkeepers alongside the likes of Manuel Neuer and Gianluigi Buffon, as he managed to play a substantial role in winning the league and reaching the Champion’s League final. On the contrary, since Chelsea’s title and domestic cup successes in 2015, along with the rest of the club, the Belgian favorite has suffered a drastic dip in form.

NO 'AU REVOIR' FROM COURTOIS 1

Real Madrid’s lack of star quality between the sticks due to their failed attempt to snatch world-class David De Gea means that they could show an interest in Chelsea’s number 1, however this interest can only be pursued after the next two transfer windows. This could mean that a bid could be put in during Summer 2018, 1 year before the contract comes to an end. The real question is, could Real break another transfer record?

Will he stay or will he go?
