FC Barcelona vice-president Javier Faus has revealed that they have no intentions of speaking to Lionel Messi about a new deal anytime soon, but team-mate Gerard Pique will have discussions about a new contract soon.

The Argentine star, who is currently sidelined with an injury, only recently signed a new five-year deal at the Nou Camp in February, which will see him remain at the club until 2018 at least.

However, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has just penned a new deal at Real Madrid which has made him become the best paid player in world football and there were reports suggesting that Barca may offer a new deal for Messi to match the Portgueuse contract, but those reports have been dismissed by Faus.

“I do not know why we have to do it again. We do not have to improve a contract every six months,” Faus told radio station RAC 1.

Faus then went on to add that they have no plans in ever selling Messi, so they do not need to worry about his contract situation.

However, a player that they are thinking about is Pique and Faus has revealed that talks will open up soon.

“We are preparing an offer for a new deal and it will be presented to his agent soon,” Faus added.
