No deal for Chamakh

Former Arsenal and Crystal Palace striker, Marouane Chamakh, will not be offered a contract by West Brom after a disappointing trial.

The greasy-haired target man had been training with the Baggies recently. However, Tony Pulis, who is soon to be inducted into the league manager Hall of Fame, has confirmed that the player will not be offered a contract.

It was also confirmed earlier in the week that another trialist, midfielder Momo Sissoko, has also left the club according to Sky Sports. Pulis has told the press “We have decided against taking Chamakh and Sissoko. They have moved on and we wish them well.”

The 32-year-old Moroccan reportedly limped off after just 26 minutes of his trial game against Delhi Dynamos. The striker crumpled under a strong challenge, leading to an injury to his ankle.

Is he really worth it?

After 6 years in the top flight of English football, Chamakh has managed only 15 goals. 8 of those were out of 40 games for Wenger’s Arsenal. However, 7 were scored within 59 games at Crystal Palace. It’s fair to say that his career has not been of the highest quality, which leads to the question, why did West Brom even offer him a trial?

At the end of the 2013-14 season, Chamakh was listed as being released by the club, as his contract had expired. However, July 11 2014 saw him sign a last minute two-year-contract with Palace. These two seasons saw a whopping 3 goals scored. As expected, this resulted on the release of the so called ‘striker’ on June 13 2016, and has since been a free agent.
