‘No enquiries for Barkley’, says Martinez

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that no enquiries have been made for Ross Barkley from either Manchester City or Chelsea.

The 20-year-old, who burst onto the scene last season, has been monitored by both Premier League giants over the past few months, despite the Englishman picking up a severe injury just before the season started, and reports broke yesterday that they both may make Summer bids for the midfielder.

However, Martinez has revealed that no contact has been made between any of the clubs, and there is nothing to tell on the future of the 20-year-old, who signed a four-year deal earlier in the year.

“I don’t think there is anything to comment,” Martinez said. “It’s a rumour and we’ll leave it there.

“We have spoken in the past about potential interest. We’ll take it as a footballing compliment, we just want him to enjoy his football and help the team. Have we had any enquiries for Ross? No.”
