The youngster won’t be able to join the Reds on loan this summer

Martin Odegaard will not be making a loan move to Liverpool this summer, due to FIFA rules that state he cannot be loaned to a club outside of Spain this summer.

This news has emerged thanks to Rennes director Mikael Silvestre, who was also keen to take the youngster on loan this summer. After looking into the possibility of taking him to France, he was told FIFA are preventing him from being loaned out to any club outside of Spain.

Real Madrid are eager for the 17-year old to get some more first-team action, as they believe he has big potential and want to help him develop as a player before he tries his luck for the Real Madrid first-team in a few years.

Odegaard cannot leave Spain

Liverpool were looking to try and bring the attacking midfielder to Anfield this summer and could have provided him with several appearances throughout the season. As previously mentioned, Rennes were also interested.

However, it now appears that the player won’t be leaving Spain due to these FIFA rules. He isn’t allowed to make a loan move to a club outside of Spain yet so he and Madrid might have to look closer to home to loan him out.

If they can’t find a suitable team to send him to, he might have to spend a season plying his trade for Real Madrid’s B team instead.
