Atletico Madrid have officially completed the signing of Renan Lodi from Athletico Paranense on a six-year deal.
The left-back appeared in 49 games for the Brazilian outfit last season and provided 4 goals and 8 assists. He reportedly cost Diego Simeone’s side €25m.
“I’m very happy to be here and arrive to a big club,” he told Atletico’s official website. “I’m very happy to be able to work alongside [Diego] Simeone, he is one of the best coaches.”
Lodi was instrumental in Athletico Paranense’s triumph in the 2018 Copa Sudamericana. The 21-year-old has been able to prove his talents in the Brazilian top-flight and is now ready to take the next step into European football.
He is becoming a part of a complete rebuild at the Wanda Metropolitano as Simeone plans on replacing most of the senior faces before the start of the 2019/20 campaign. Atletico have already gotten rid of Diego Godin, Juanfran and Filipe Luis and are tipped to bid goodbye to Antoine Griezmann soon.
They have also made big sales in Rodri, Lucas Hernandez and Gelson Martins along with Luciano Vietto and Bernard Mensah. They have reinvested that money in getting Joao Felix, Marco Llorent, Felipe and now, Lodi. They have also agreed a permanent deal with Chelsea for the transfer of Alvaro Morata.
