Atletico Madrid have officially completed the signing of Joao Felix from Benfica for a transfer fee of £126m (€142m).
The La Liga outfit were always firm favourites to sign him and now they have blown their transfer record out of the waters to get him. 19-year-old Felix is also one of the five most expensive players on planet Earth.
His contract is reported to be seven years long as he will join Marcos Llorente in Atletico’s list of arrivals in this summer transfer window. Diego Simeone’s men paid €45m to get the latter from Real Madrid.
Felix grabbed the limelight last season with his 20 goals and 11 assists in 43 games for Benfica. The attacking midfielder got to showcase the outstanding level of talent he already possesses at such an young age.
His dribbling, vision and passing abilities are one to look out for as he lines up in the red and white next season. Felix is best suited to the number ten role, which incidentally has opened up with Antoine Greizmann tipped to leave for Barcelona soon.
But the youngster can play on the wings as well. He is a huge threat going forward and has also developed a keen eye for goal.
If anything, Atletico fans should have a little bit of patience with the teenager and not expect him to break out as an outright star immediately.
