According to The Telegraph, Crystal Palace has agreed to sign Ben Chilwell on loan for the remainder of the season, meaning he may actually get to play some real football this year. Chilly’s medical is scheduled for Monday, and if all goes according to plan, his relocation should be completed by the 11 p.m. deadline. Chilwell can play anywhere on the left wing and even as a left-center back in a three-man defense, which Palace boss Oliver Glasner prefers to use, even if he won’t be able to directly replace the recalled Trevoh Chalobah.
Chilwell’s loan has no more conditions attached; therefore, he will return to Chelsea at the end of the season, when his future can hopefully be appropriately discussed. The former vice captain has only played 45 minutes this season since he was not registered for the UEFA Conference League or the Premier League. He has a 2.5-year contract extension.
Ben Chilwell secures Chelsea exit on loan to Palace
Since then, talks seem to have moved swiftly forward, with Chilwell’s relocation to Selhurst Park now appearing to be imminent. Romano gave his fans an update on X on Sunday night, stating, Chelsea and Crystal Palace have confirmed an agreement for Ben Chilwell to be loaned until June. Players are expected to accept the transfer; last-minute details are being discussed, and Monday is already scheduled for medical examinations.
Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, whom Romano referenced, added context by stating that the agreement is in the form of a six-month loan. He stated that Ben Chilwell will get a medical at Crystal Palace on the day of the transfer deadline before receiving a six-month loan from Chelsea. Oliver Glasner gives the choice to play both center back and left wingback in his lineup. A deal was reached between the clubs.
According to Spotrac, Chilwell earns £200,000 a week at Chelsea; however, the Daily Mail earlier stated that the Blues would have to cover a percentage of his salary in order to make a move to Palace possible. Although the details have not yet been confirmed, it would be unexpected if the Eagles paid Chilwell’s whole salary.
