Chelsea have recently agreed terms with PSG regarding the sale of David Luiz, 27, for a reported £40 million pound deal. A number of reports on Friday claimed that both Chelsea and PSG were in advanced talks over the talented Brazilian. On Friday, Chelsea confirmed the talks and said the deal was in place for the 27-year-old; however The Blues have made no citation to what the value of the transfer is.

Chelsea has also asserted on their official website that both clubs had agreed terms for the transfer to take place and that Luiz is free to join the French giants. The statement on the website read: “Chelsea Football Club and Paris Saint-Germain have agreed terms for the transfer of David Luiz to the French club. The move is now subject to David Luiz agreeing personal terms with PSG and passing a medical examination.”

The Brazilian international is expected to sign a 4-year with the open choice of an extra year. Although the talks seem to be confirmed, the transfer cannot be official until 10th June when the summer window opens. Despite breaching the ‘financial fair play rule’, Laurent Blanc insisted that PSG would strengthen their squad this summer and also indicated their interest in Luiz. Paris-Saint-Germain also confirmed the talks on their official website and stated: “To respond to the desire of the player to prepare and play the World Cup in his own country in the best conditions possible, the will of the two clubs and of David Luiz was to come to an agreement as quickly as possible between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea, on the one hand, and between the Parisian club and the player on the other in order to make the transfer official as soon as the transfer window opens.”

Last season David Luiz found it hard to break into the first-team squad and was regularly played as a central defensive midfielder due to the continuous impressions Terry and Cahill were making to Mourinho at the back.

David Luiz himself said that he was open to the speculation and could be set for a move to the French Champions.

The exit of Luiz will also give further opportunities for Tomas Kalas to show his worth next season, along with Kurt Zouma, who signed for the Blues in January.
