The winger has extended his contract until 2023

Leon Bailey has signed a new 5 deal at Bayer Leverkusen, extending his contract until the summer of 2023. He has been a mainstay at the club since joining them, scoring 12 goals in 44 appearances.

A statement from the club reads: “Bayer 04 and Leon Bailey have agreed a contract extension: The new deal for the 21-year-old runs to 30 June 2023.”

“This contract extension is a show of appreciation for the support I’ve had and I’ve always said how happy I feel here in Leverkusen,” Bailey said. “We can achieve a lot with this young team. My goal is to repay the trust shown in me with good performances and consistent development.”

The Jamaican joined the Bundesliga giants during the January transfer window of 2017. But struggled to make an impact as he ended the season without scoring any goal.

However, the 20 year old was a revelation in the Bundesliga last season and has been considered as one of the best up and coming talents playing in Europe’s top five leagues right now after a superb season with the German side.

The Winger dominated Bundesliga defences on his way to scoring nine goals and claiming six assists in 30 appearances and helped his team to finish fifth in the League, just missing out on a spot in the Champions League.

He has represented the Reggae Boyz at U23 level but has yet to accept a call-up to their senior squad. His eligibility to represent England is still up in the air as Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate remains interested if the winger can legally prove his English roots.

Bailey attracted lot of attention from England this summer as Premier League giants were reportedly interested in signing him. He even revealed that it would be a dream for him to play in the Premier League.
