Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic has signed a new contract at the club. This new contract will keep the Croatian striker at the club till 2021. Mandzukic joined Juventus from Atletico Madrid in 2015 on a transfer fee of €19 million. So far, Mandzukic has made 159 appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring 43 goals and providing 24 assists. This season, Mandzukic has made 30 appearances for Juventus, scoring 9 goals and providing 7 assists.
A former Croatian international, Mandzukic played 89 matches for Croatia from 2007-2018, scoring 33 goals. He played a key role in Croatia’s run to the World Cup final last summer. The striker scored three goals during the tournament including the goal against England that took Croatia to the World Cup final. He did score a consolation goal in the final against France but not before scoring the first ever own goal in a World Cup Final. Mandzukic’s performances in the World Cup was a major reason why he was nominated for the Ballon d’Or. He retired from the national team following the World Cup.
Mandzukic’s contract extension will certainly please Juventus because he is a very crucial player for the club. Mandzukic has linked up well with Cristiano Ronaldo this season as Juventus eye Champions League glory in addition to the Scudetto.
After missing out on Juve’s match against Empoli, Mandzukic will most likely start in Saturday’s match against AC Milan. The Croat will hope to put on a strong performance so that Juventus can continue their dominant run in the Serie A.
