Real Madrid have announced the signing of Porto centre-back Eder Militao. Militao has already signed a 6-year contract with Los Blancos and will join the club next season. Militao joined Porto from Sao Paulo last summer and has done pretty well for the club this season.
The 21-year old has made 34 appearances for Porto this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists. This season, Militao has been Primeira Liga Defender of the Month on 5 occasions. Militao won the award for the months of September, October, November, December and January.
He has also played a key role in Porto’s surprising run to the Champions League quarter-finals. Several clubs were interested in signing Militao. These included Manchester United and Liverpool. However, Real Madrid were always the front runners to sign him and have done so.
Militao has also made one appearance with the Brazil national football team. He made his international debut for Brazil in a friendly against El Salvador last September. Militao is also in Brazil’s squad for their friendlies against Panama and Czech Republic.
Eder Militao will be Real’s first signing under Zinedine Zidane. It will be interesting to see how much playing time Militao gets at Real Madrid when he joins the club because he will be competing with the likes of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane for a place in the starting XI.
