Ola Aina believes John Terry would be a hit at Aston Villa following his appointment as an assistant manager at the Villa Park.

Terry will be seen assisting Villa manager Dean Smith which is his first shot at a managerial career. The former Chelsea defender recently announced his retirement from football and almost immediately got back to Villa Park where he played for the last time in his career.

Bruce had been plotting an offer for Terry to plug the gap in his defensive setup but had never really got the chance. The 37 year old guided the Midland giants to the Championship playoff final last season where they got beaten by Fulham.

Aina who rubbed shoulder with Terry when he was at Chelsea feels Terry is capable of doing wonders as a manager. “My time has been spent playing with him at Chelsea and against him at Villa.

“With the young ones, he was always good, he would text us every now and again.

“He would give us advice and just watching him on the pitch helped. Just playing with him and then training with him every day, that was more how I got the knowledge that he gave to me.

“It might not be verbally all the time, but just watching him on the pitch and how he was.”

“Even off the pitch, watching him helped me as a young defender.”
