Giroud hits back

Arsenal frontman, Olivier Giroud, has hit back at Gunners’ legend Thierry Henry’s claims that he is not of the quality to lead Arsenal to Premier League success.

Henry recently went on record stating that Giroud was ‘doing well’ this season but was insistent that his old club ‘need that spine’ to mount a serious challenge and Giroud does not offer it.

Henry: ‘Can you win the league with him?’

Henry, Arsenal‘s record goalscorer and part of the famous ‘invincibles’ team, also said: “I am afraid, they need a top, top quality striker to win this league again.”

He went on to tell Sky Sports: “I think Giroud is doing extremely well but can you win the league with him? I wouldn’t think so,”

Gunners’ boss, Arsene Wenger, has since gone on record to defend his striker, and Giroud has now personally hit back at Henry’s criticism with a ‘dig’ at the Frenchman’s punditry prowess!

Arsenal striker responds

Talking to French newspaper, L’Equipe he said: “I heard he was saying too many dull things. That was a bomb and it had its desired effect,

“It was surprising to hear him take apart the team. I say ‘team’ because it wasn’t just me, it was the spine. I think he’s wrong.

“I didn’t enjoy hearing it. Coming from an ex-France and Arsenal striker, it’s a shame. It was a bit easy for him to say that after the Chelsea game.

“We were doing well, unbeaten in 10, my stats were good. It hurt my pride.

“Maybe (Henry) was angry that I needed fewer games than him to score 50 goals for Arsenal.”

All’s well at the Emirates then!
