Arsenal boss puts striker alongside Sergio Aguero, Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has called Olivier Giroud world-class and has put him alongside the likes of Sergio Aguero, Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema.

The Frenchman netted an impressive hat-trick on Wednesday night during Arsenal‘s vital 3-0 win in Greece, and after the game, Wenger hailed his match-winner.

Arsenal knew they had to beat Olympiakos by two-clear goals, and a Giroud hat-trick secured their spot in the knockout stage of the Champions League.

Wenger was heavily criticised for not signing a striker over the summer, with Benzema strongly linked from Real Madrid, but the Frenchman has insisted that Giroud is just as good as his compatriot, and even just as good as Aguero and Lewandowski.

Giroud Hailed

Wenger said: “He is not an electric type of player, he gets less spectacular actions and less credit as well. You see a guy who is electric and goes out you say, ‘that is fantastic’.

“But the kind of header he scored for the first goal on Wednesday, you do not get so much credit. OK he was there and he headed the ball in. But it is was an important goal.

“Would I class him alongside Aguero, Lewandowski and Benzema? Of course.”
