Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that the arrival of Mesut Ozil is similar to when Dennis Bergkamp joined the club.
Just a year before Wenger took over at the North London club, they managed to secure the signing of Bergkamp from Inter Milan, who at the time, was considered one of the top players in europe.
The Dutchman then went on to be one of the best ever players to play for Arsenal and helped them win numerous titles during his time in North London.
Many people were surprised when The Gunners secured the signing of Ozil on the deadline day for £42.3million and Wenger believes it’s the same as to when the club secured Bergkamp back in 1995.
“It is comparable because they are similar players in the same department and they are big names who come from big teams,” Wenger told Arsenal Player.
“You must say as well that Ozil was not perceived as being a failure at Real Madrid, he was perceived by the whole world as being a huge success at Real Madrid so of course the noise made by a signature like that is big.”
