Ozil was injured after 2 minutes of Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich

Mesut Ozil revealed earlier today on his official Facebook page that he had indeed injured his hamstring after the opening 2 minutes of Arsenal’s Champions League defeat at the Allianz Arena.

The news comes just one week after Jack Wilshere was ruled out for at least 6 weeks following a challenge from Liverpool’s Daniel Agger, while on duty for the England national team.

Ozil will join Wilshere on the sidelines

Arsenal fans are bound to be furious with the German international, with whom they have not been impressed with since the turn of the year.  But Arsenal fans could possibly be looking at this the wrong way. Was Ozil’s willingness to play on a sign of stupidity, or was it actually a sign of how committed he is to Arsenal.

Nevertheless, this is just another worrying sign for the club and it’s fans. They have endured a tough start to 2014 with an awful display at Liverpool, dropping out of form in the Premier League and now being dumped out of the Champions League at the 1st Knockout Stage. Although they do have an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley to look forward to.

But this injury to Ozil is a major blow with Wilshere already out for a lenghty spell, as well as Ramsey and Walcott, and the team on a downward spiral. Arsenal need some spirit at the moment but it does not seem to be coming, and with tough fixtures on the horizon they need to raise their game.

This is what Ozil had to say on his official Facebook page: “Now it’s clear, during the #ucl match against #FCBayern I suffered a muscle injury in the 2nd minute.

“I tried to give my best and played until the end of the 1st half. rest assured that I’ll be back even stronger!”

The Arsenal playemaker now faces a race against time to be fit for the FA Cup semi-final against Wigan Athletic on April 12th, with the worst case scenario being that he misses more matches in April and might not be fit until the start of May. He will also miss some extremely key fixtures against Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City.

Can Arsenal save their season without some of their most influential players?
