Borussia Dortmund seem set on losing Paco Alcacer after the arrival of Erling Haaland.
The football world was shocked to hear Haaland securing a €20m switch from Red Bull Salzburg. He was heavily linked with Manchester United but ended up moving to Germany this winter.
His entry into Signal Iduna Park has put Alcacer’s place in the team in question. The Spaniard was signed out of Barcelona for €23m last February and was handed a contract until June 2023. Despite his impressive scoring tally for Dortmund, Alcacer has found it hard to break into the first team, often making substitute appearances.
He is bound to get further dropped in the pecking order with Haaland hitting top form this season. The Austrian teenager has struck the back of the net 28 times in 23 games this season. He is expected to lead BVB’s free-flowing forward line next to the likes of Marco Reus, Jadon Sancho, Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard.
Dortmund would be open to selling Alcacer but only at a profit. The German giants want €40m for the striker with Atletico Madrid leaning towards a move. Alcacer could also spark the interests of Premier League teams like Chelsea and Manchester United. Both of them are in the market for attacking improvements.
