Werder Bremen CEO admits they want Chelsea defender for longer

Werder Bremen have confirmed they want to keep Chelsea defender Papy Djilobodji past this season, but would only be able to afford a loan deal rather than a permanent one.

The centre-back is currently on a six-month loan in Germany until the end of the season, but Thomas Eichin has already admitted that should Chelsea want to loan him out once again next season, they’d be interested.

Djilobodji only arrived at Stamford Bridge in the summer, but after playing just one minute of football for the Blues‘ first-team, he completed his temporary move to Bremen last month.

Manager at the time Jose Mourinho even admitted that he didn’t want the defender signed, and despite Mourinho being replaced by Guus Hiddink, game-time still didn’t increase for Djilobodji.

Bremen Want Loan Extended

Speaking about the centre-back, Eichin admitted that should the Premier League outfit want to send him out on loan for next season, they would certainly be interested, but if they are looking to sell him permanently, he doesn’t think his club will be able to afford it.

‘If Chelsea want to sell him, we’d be without a chance but should they want to get him more playing time first, we’d be in the mix,’ said Eichin.
