Alexandre Pato has revealed that he received an offer to sign for Manchester United before the close of the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian-native, who scored 51 Serie A goals during six-years at AC Milan, before moving back to his homeland in 2013, is currently on loan at  Sao Paulo from Corinthians.

Pato, aged 26, is keen on a return to the European footballing scene, having expressed a desire to play in the Champions League again.

Tottenham Hotspur had previously been keen on his signature, but Pato has stated that Manchester United made an offer to sign him, but opted in favour of Anthony Martial.

Pato’s United offer

Speaking to Brazilian network SporTV, he said: “I won’t lie, two hours before closing [the transfer window] I had a very nice offer from Manchester United.

“I was expecting it, but I only knew after when they commented. But my focus now is here.

“I am working to do my best and possibly stay at Sao Paulo.

“I won’t lie to you that I think yes [about the future]. I see with my family, with the people closest to me, we talk about what will happen, how it will happen, what will be next year.

“It’s only a few months, we don’t count December, so it’s not a long time.”
