Patrice Evra signs new one-year deal

Patrice Evra has signed a new one-year contract at Manchester United. The defender’s previous deal had been due to expire at the end of June.

The Frenchman made 45 appearances for The Red Devils last season, although it was a rather disapointing campaign as the side finished seventh in the league. The decision to keep hold of Evra may affect who becomes the new captain of United. Wayne Rooney said he would like to be considered, while Robin Van Persie was believed to be favoured. Now that Evra will be staying, the role may be handed to him.

Louis van Gaal has already lost three senior players in Nemanja Vidic(who is set to leave), Ryan Giggs(who has retired) and Rio Ferdinand(who is also set to leave), so the fact he has retained Evra’s services is good news for the new boss.
