The Daily Mirror understands that Pep Guardiola has been accused of tampering with Frenkie De Jong’s transfer to Barcelona by the La Liga club’s manager, Ernesto Valverde.

Barcelona managed to win the race for the 21-year-old Dutch wonderkid after facing a lot of competition from Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. De Jong signed a deal with the Blaugrana after his ÂŁ70m transfer to the Camp Nou got confirmed.

However, the defensive midfielder also revealed that he had exchanged words with the City boss before making his move to Spain official and this has rubbed Valverde the wrong way.

The Barcelona head coach told the press, “Maybe if you talk to a player with a contract with another team. That can not be done, you can not talk to a player who has a contract. Recognize that you’ve done that … it’s not in my code. Say, everyone has their way of acting.”

It should beneficial to know that De Jong has previously expressed his admiration for Guardiola and the desire to play under him someday. The Ajax player idolised the Barcelona team that dominated Europe under Guardiola.

De Jong was quoted – “I spoke with Paris Saint-Germain and I also spoke with Guardiola about signing for Manchester City, they all want to convince you when they love you, I am happy and proud that they loved me, but I decided to sign for Barcelona.”

“I saw Barcelona as a child and then, when I was a little more aware of the game, I followed the Guardiola era with all his successes, that still made me a biggest fan.”
