Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola praised his team’s win over Cardiff City yesterday, stating that the performance level of the team was similar to that of last season when they won the Premier League with a record 100 points. Manchester City thrashed Cardiff City 5-0 thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero, Bernardo Silva, Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez.

Yesterday’s match was Sergio Aguero’s 300th game for Manchester City which came a day after penning a one-year extension with the club. He scored his 205th goal for the club and Guardiola was all praise for the Argentine.

Guardiola said of Aguero, “He is an authentic legend. It’s important what he has done at this club and hopefully we will have him for longer and he stays in a good position. The level today was the level of last season. We cannot forget the Champions League, the opponents are good too, we knew that. It’s part of the process.

The season is long, there are a lot of games to play. After one not good result, the team came back where it normally is. Of course we are more confident at 0-3 than 0-0, to score goals you have to be patient and let the game speak for itself.

This kind of thing happens, we were patient, we didn’t suffer with the long balls and free-kicks, that’s always important.”

Riyad Mahrez’s brace after coming on as a substitute was his first two goals for Manchester City. Guardiola praised the Algerian’s performance, calling him a ‘special talent’.  He said, “He played good. He’s a guy who is going to help us a lot because he is a special talent and in front of the box he has an incredible quality. We are so satisfied.”

Manchester City are currently 2nd in the Premier League table below Liverpool. Their next match is a Carabao Cup fixture against Oxford United on Tuesday before playing Brighton on Saturday.
