Pep Guardiola has confirmed Manchester City are on the lookout for a new left back in the transfer market.
First choice left back Benjamin Mendy has featured in nine appearances so far in the top flight and underwent a knee surgery last year. The French international’s expected return to the pitch is yet to be known as he started training last week only.
Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko have chipped in with useful contribution on the left side of the defence but Mendy’s persistent injury problems have been a matter of concerns for the former Barcelona manager.
With City pressing hard to defend their Premier League title, a solid presence on the left side would be needed but a move in the January transfer window is looking very unlikely.
Guardiola said, “We survived well last season, this season too, but we are thinking about that, yeah.
“I cannot assure you as I’m delighted with the players I have and at the end of the season we are going to decide. But we are going to look at both options [holding midfield and left back] on the table.”
